Indigo Ag upends standard biological seed treatment application

    • CLIPS™, an automatic hands-free system, saves time and hassle

Boston, MA – Sept. 10, 2024 – Indigo Ag  today launched its ground-breaking CLIPS™ device. The device is an automatic hands-free system, which saves time, removes the hassle factor in the seed treatment process, and potentially upends standard biological seed treatment applications.

Indigo Ag’s CLIPS is unlike any other dry powder application system for bulk seed box containers. It provides fast, reliable application of dry powder formulations, in this case, Indigo’s proven biological lineup, while sidestepping restrictive on-seed stability and planting window concerns.

The CLIPS device underwent rigorous field tests this year and received widespread acclaim from both retailers and farmers. John Martin, with Integrated Seed Solutions, was one of the first retailers to test the new product. He said, “Indigo Ag’s CLIPS device is a game-changer. By allowing us to apply seed coatings during the off-season, we're able to streamline our operations and focus on what matters most during planting: getting seeds to the farmer and in the ground. With the CLIPS device, we're able to offer our customers a more efficient and reliable solution for applying biological seed treatments. The ability to reduce opportunity for product exposure and eliminate manual steps makes it a must-have tool for us and our growers."

The CLIPS device can be attached to the side of a bulk seed box container up to 24  months before it is expected to be used. When the seed is released from the box during planting, the CLIPS device automatically releases Indigo Ag biological products formulated as a dry powder. The product is mixed as the seed enters the planter without any intervention from the farmer. Just like the seed box, the CLIPS device can also be reused. And, because it is a closed system, the device creates less mess.

“We heard directly from farmers and retailers who want the benefits of biologicals without the hassle of opening extra containers and complicated mixing instructions during the busy planting season,” said Jon Giebel, vice president of Product Strategy with Indigo Ag. “CLIPS is the solution, delivering flowable powders in a completely new and simple way. It has the potential to help unlock even more value from the forecasted $29B biologicals market by 2030 for retailers and farmers alike. ”

CLIPS is so easy to use that it can be installed in less than a minute and requires no specialized training or handling. The product can work with any type of seed box on the market. CLIPS is self-contained and needs no additional treating equipment. Farmers or retailers can switch or remove products up to the last minute before planting if conditions warrant.

Martin added, “Indigo Ag’s CLIPS device has been a standout addition to our product lineup. In trials this spring, it’s proven to simplify the seed coating process, reduce chances for product exposure and enhance the consistency of applications. This innovation is a win-win for us and our customers.”

CLIPS was designed in collaboration with 3BarBio, the first biological Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization focused on the agriculture industry.
